 Balcony was created for World Listening Day 2022 to explore the Bodily Listening in Place theme for intersensory improvisation. Our location was a flower-filled balcony on the corner of a busy Montreal street in the Plateaus, which is the home of one of the collaborators, Shannon Harris. Over the years, this location has given us three a sense of happiness, peace and beautiful hours smelling the current summer flower bloom. We explored the score for intersensory improvisation separately and used our individual processes unique to our practices. The final realization is a nonlinear audiovisual improvisation that runs in Max/MSP. The shifting light in Harris’s video is a triggering agent that randomly selects from a large folder of audio-recorded improvisation on the balcony. These encounters include various intersensory improvisions with time, place, body, and technology and express our attention and response to this place.
